Join us for Ascension Day (May 21)

Please join us for Ascension Day service on May 21 at 7:00 p.m. The guest preacher will be the Rev. Dr. Frederick Baue, pastor of Bethany LCMS in Fairview Heights, IL.

Before the service (time TBA), Dr. Baue will give a presentation on “New Developments in the Creation/Evolution Debate.”

Rev. Frederic W. Baue, Ph.D., is a son of Emmaus Lutheran Church, having been baptized there on August 6, 1946. A 1981 graduate of Concordia Seminary, St. Louis, Dr. Baue currently serves Bethany Evangelical Lutheran Church UAC, Fairview Heights, Illinois. With a doctorate in English Literature, (Univ. of Arizona, 1997) he has written numerous books and articles, most recently a novel, The Clubhouse, which is forthcoming from Pomegranate Press. While a senior editor at Concordia Publishing House, 1999-2004, Dr. Baue oversaw the publication of Portals of Prayer, and also developed books such as The Lonely Way by Hermann Sasse and The Fire and the Staff by Klemet Preus. Dr. Baue is also an active musician, with two CDs of guitar music on the Wildstone label, and has recently taken up the fiddle. He often combines his interests in music, literature, and theology in the writing of hymns, such as “What Is This Bread?”, no. 629 in Lutheran Service Book. His speaking engagements have taken him to Canada, Great Britain, and Europe as well as around the United States. In April of this year he spoke on the topic of Creation and Evolution at the 20th Annual Congress on the Lutheran Confessions in Minneapolis. Fred’s wife, Jean Baue, is renowned as co-principal soprano with the American Kantorei’s “Bach at the Sem” concert series. They make their home in St. Louis, and are the parents of three grown children.
