Celebrate the Reformation at Emmaus Lutheran Church

2241 S Jefferson Ave, Saint Louis, MO

Join us on Saturday, October 30 for an afternoon of learning, conversation, worship, and fun as we celebrate the Reformation of the Church, which began 493 years ago.
Saturday, October 30, 2010

3:00 Greetings–Rev. Dr. John Hellwege, pastor of Emmaus Lutheran Church

Presentation: “Reformation in a Culture of Reinvention” – Pastor Todd Wilken, host of “Issues, Etc.”

5:00 Reformation worship service (Solemn Vespers)

Followed by reception

Please RSVP to barbara-sullivan@sbcglobal.net.

On October 31, 1517, an Augustinian monk posted ninety-five statements for discussion on the door of the Castle Church in Wittenberg, Germany. Dr. Martin Luther hoped that posting his theses would bring about an academic debate regarding repentance, the sale of indulgences, and other matters of concern within the Roman Catholic Church. However, Rome excluded Luther from its churches, judging him to be a heretic. Luther’s reforms, centered on the teaching that a believer is justified (accepted by God) by grace through faith in Jesus Christ, sparked religious reforms not only in the German states but also in many European countries.
