Academy
At the Emmaus Lutheran Classical Academy we are excited about this new school year. After some changes and adaptations, we are moving back to a smaller, co-op style format, but interested families are welcome to join us.
Our Story
Two years ago, Emmaus Evangelical Lutheran Church started a venture with the hopes of assisting home schooling families in St. Louis. Our intention is to build on the long-standing Lutheran tradition of sound biblical doctrine and excellent education. Many people don’t know this, but Martin Luther actually started a reformation of education in Wittenberg prior to his starting the religious Reformation of the Church. In the minds of Luther and many of his supporters, the long-term success of the religious Reformation of the Church depended on excellent, solid, Christian education for children.
Our goal is to create a center that is particularly classical in its pedagogical approach. Our basic approach is built on the classical model of the three stages of development: grammar, logic and rhetoric and a rigorous approach to reading and intellectual growth.
Format
This year we are moving to meet on Wednesday afternoons. We will have classes for younger grades in history, as well as having drama and music classes for all grades.
Our Beliefs
Emmaus Lutheran Classical Academy is an arm of Emmaus Evangelical Lutheran Church, a member of the Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod. We are proud to be following in the great conservative Lutheran heritage of orthodox biblical theology and excellent education. As such, we unashamedly hold to the Bible as the inspired, inerrant Word of God. We worship God as the triune God which the Bible reveals and the Church has historically taught. We cling to the only hope of mankind, namely the suffering, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, true man and true God, for the forgiveness and regeneration of all who trust in Him. For a complete explanation of Lutheran doctrine, please see the documents known as the Lutheran Confessions which are printed in The Book of Concord which you can read here: bookofconcord.com
